Who Am I?

I am the President and Owner of SureFire IT Solutions Inc., an Edmonton based IT management company focused on small and medium sized businesses.  This is my personal blog.  My belief is that if you are going take a trip and enjoy the journey, you had better take some notes along the way so you can not only remember what you did but what you learned along the way.  If what I learn along the waycan help others be more productive and enjoy this trip called Life a bit more, then it’s all worth it.

I write on religion, technology, productivity, social media, fatherhood, and stuff that doesn’t fit into any of these categories.

I typically post once a week. To make sure you don’t miss my newest posts, you can subscribe via RSS.

MY BIOGRAPHY

I have worked in the information technology industry for my entire career. It began in High School by starting a small consulting business called Jervis Computer Consulting.  It served well to may for my schooling.  I attended MacEwan Collage taking their Information Process Diploma program.  I tested out the waters of programming by starting a Computer Science degree at the University of Alberta.  I really found that it gave me a good root in the basic principles of scripting and such.  The world programming just wasn’t my thing, I needed to actually work the technology.  At this time I was working for BrainBuzz.com, which focused on providing study materials for technology exams.  Who would have thought I’d spend the next 2 years writing over 25 exams on my way to get certified by Microsoft, CompTIA, Cisco and Novell.

I started working for GE IT Solutions in 2003 as a desktop technician, but quickly moved up the ranks to be a Systems Integration Manager with CompuCom Systems responsible for 6 of the GE Consumer Finance call centre locations managing the technology infrastructure and technical staff.  As the travel got to be too much, I left CompuCom to start SureFire IT Solutions.

I started SureFire IT Solutions in the fall of 2006 and have had slow and steady growth since.  We are looking forward to what 2011 bring and the changes that are happening in the IT industry.

I write on business productivity, leadership, small business trends and business focused technology on the SureFire IT Solutions Blog.

I have been married to my wife, Lisa (follow her on Twitter @LisaCJervis), for 7 years. She has been spending time writing on Living 31:27.  We have 2 boys under 5. We live in Beaumont, Alberta, just outside of Edmonton.

In my free time, I enjoy camping, playing basketball, and golfing. I am a member of Eaglemont Christian Church in Beaumont, Alberta, where I have coordinated the multimedia team since the church was planted in 2007.
